MGM Springfield is hiring!

MGM Springfield is hosting weekly hiring events to get its workforce back up to full strength.

As the COVID-19 pandemic seems to subside, casinos are seeing a resurgence of activity. Consequently, MGM Springfield has to fill hundreds of positions.

The operation is leaning heavily on these in-person events to do so. Interested applicants can come to the events held in the MGM Springfield hotel lobby from 1-3 pm on any Tuesday. The hiring events will continue each Tuesday until further notice.

“As COVID restrictions again [are] started to be lifted, cases trending down, we are hoping to be able to start to open more amenities and activate more areas and in order to do that, we need to hire a fair amount of people,” said MGM Springfield Executive Chef Chris Smigel.

MGM Springfield hiring event has a variety of job openings

Currently, MGM Springfield has a crucial need for culinary department workers. The casino’s first urgent hiring event focused mainly on the culinary and hospitality departments.

MGM added six cooks to their kitchen from the first event, which they held in August. But Smigel says the operation needs a lot more employees.

“We need more. We are a big operation and our hours are limited right now and in order for us to make things more available to our guests food and beverage standard, we need more bodies,” Smigel said.

If cooking isn’t your strong suit, don’t worry! In addition to cook and kitchen staff positions, plenty of other work is available.

According to the MGM Resorts careers webpage, they are also interviewing and hiring for the following positions:

  • EVS Utility Porters
  • EVS Casino Porters
  • Security Officers
  • Fountain Workers
  • Count Team
  • Tech Utility
  • HVAC Tech
  • Public Safety Office and Usher Events

MGM has lots of jobs and incentives for new hires

MGM Springfield is looking to fill approximately 200 positions. This all-in effort to fully reopen their amenities seven days a week was previously impossible due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Jason Randall, MGM Springfield’s Director of Human Resources, said that while they are obviously vetting and interviewing all candidates, the sooner they fill these openings, the better.

“Our guests are asking for it,” Randall said. “They want more options here on property and we want to be able to offer that, so we need to have the right amount of staff to service them appropriately and get the venues reopened.”

With so many jobs to fill, the MGM Springfield Casino realizes they may have trouble finding enough people to fill all the roles. Because of this, the casino is offering some incredible incentives for those looking for work.

MGM Springfield offers an increased hourly wage, up to $2,500 in retention bonuses, free college tuition opportunities, and health benefits for new employees.

“Our retention bonus is based on position and the type of position that someone is going for…$2,500 for the culinary is the largest offering that we have, but our retention bonus can be anywhere from $1,500 up,” Randall said.
