MGM Springfield is a resort casino located in the Metro Center of Springfield, Massachusetts. The facility has many different gaming options available, and there is a little bit of something for everyone.
Now that sports betting in Massachusetts is legal, MGM Springfield is also home to a retail sportsbook. The Western Massachusetts resort casino received a retail sports betting license from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, and launched retail sports betting in January.

MGM Springfield Sports Betting
Retail sports betting in Massachusetts launched earlier this year, and sports fans in the state can now place their wagers at three Massachusetts casinos. MGM Springfield is one of them, as bets are accepted at the facility through its sports betting partner, BetMGM MA Sportsbook. Sports fans in Massachusetts have been waiting for a while to place their bets, and now they can officially get in on the action.
BetMGM Sportsbook is a very trustworthy sports betting platform. It’s a product of two powerhouses — MGM Resorts and Entain. The former is a trusted brand that has been part of the Las Vegas gambling scene for decades now. Entain made its name in the European online and retail gambling sector, where it operates several top-tier skins.
Both retail and mobile sports betting are allowed at MGM Springfield. Retail betting launched Jan. 31 and online betting went live March 10.
When placing your bets online, don’t forget to check out the many MA sports betting bonuses that are available.
MGM Springfield Casino Games
The casino area at MGM Springfield encompasses 125,000 square feet of space. Within that space, there are more than 2,500 slot machines, dozens of table games, a poker room, and keno.
Slot Machines
MGM Springfield is home to more than 1,500 slot machines. Games of every type — from standard reel games to 3D multimedia options — are spread across the floor. Some of the top games available include:
- Lightning Link
- Dragon Fury
- Wheel of Fortune Hawaiian Getaway
- Lion’s Share
- FuXuan
Some slot games at MGM Springfield feature progressive jackpots that can award players hundreds of thousands of dollars in a single spin.
Table Games
MGM Springfield is home to dozens of table games. Depending on the season and the configuration of the gaming floor, there can be more than 100 tables available for play. Table games offered at MGM Springfield include:
- Big 6
- Blackjack
- Craps
- Four Card Poker
- Let It Ride
- Midi Baccarat
- Mini Baccarat
- Roulette
- Spanish 21
- Three Card Poker
- Ultimate Texas Hold’em
Obviously, games like blackjack and roulette are allotted more tables than some of the lesser-known games. Similarly, these common games are more reliably available around the clock at MGM Springfield. However, there are plenty of options for those who like some variety in their gaming.
Poker
The poker room at MGM Springfield operates with 13 tables. Each table can seat as many as nine players. The well-appointed room includes comfortable leather chairs, high-definition television monitors, and a self-service soda dispenser with hundreds of different sodas available.
The room is not a 24-hour facility. Games are only available between 11 a.m. and 3 a.m. However, the room does feature a bad beat jackpot that can award thousands of dollars to players in an instant. At present, the MGM Springfield Casino poker room is the only legal poker room open for business in Massachusetts (until Encore BH opens its room in February 2022).
Keno
Keno tickets are available for purchase at MGM Springfield if you are patronizing the TAP Sports Bar and Grill. Servers at the restaurant can bring tickets directly to your table and run them to be processed for the next drawing. Keno is actually a game operated by the Massachusetts Lottery. There are keno drawings every four minutes from 5:04 a.m. until 1 a.m., 7 days a week.
MGM Springfield Casino Amenities
Every player is different. When visiting MGM Springfield, not everyone wants to gamble, while a few want to gamble nonstop. Thankfully, there are several different amenities and attractions that you can find at or near the property at Main and Howard. There is a little something for everyone.
MGM Springfield has several amenities that make the resort more family-friendly. Guests have to be 21 or older to visit the casino area, but there are several outlets that anyone can enjoy.
Like most Massachusetts casinos, MGM Springfield has requisite spa and salon options. You will find services for nail care, hair care, and massages in as many configurations as you like.
You can also find several different food options on the property. Interestingly, many of the available options are for American cuisine. Whereas casino locations often sample from foods of different countries, MGM Springfield has many spots to grab a burger. Notably, the venue is home to a Wahlburgers location, the restaurant owned by the Wahlberg brothers.
MGM Springfield is also one of the few casino locations with a full movie theater on site. Regal Cinemas operates seven theaters and is open to the general public. In addition, TAP Sports Bar offers both bowling and a video game arcade for players of all ages. Finally, there’s a TopGolf Swing Suite, a swanky indoor lounge that offers the same targeted golf experience that most standalone TopGolf locations.
And don’t forget about the retail BetMGM Sportsbook!
MLife
Because MGM Springfield is part of the MGM Resorts group, patrons who visit the property can take part in MGM’s loyalty program, MLife. Registration is free, and you can receive points for every dollar that you bet onsite.
There are five different levels of MLife membership that you can attain. Each level comes with its own set of perks and benefits that you can use to enhance your stay at MGM Springfield. The five levels are:
- Sapphire – up to 24,999 points
- Pearl – 25,000 to 74,999 points
- Gold – 75,000 to 199,999 points
- Platinum – 200,000 points or more
- Noir – By invitation only
Perks and benefits include preferred check-in at MGM Springfield’s hotel, preferred lines for restaurants onsite, and discounts at retail shops. Platinum and Noir members even receive guaranteed hotel stays, restaurant reservations, and a free cruise once a year.
Responsible Gambling Resources at MGM Springfield
When participating in gambling activity, it is important to remember to always play responsibly. Massachusetts residents are fortunate that the state government has allotted many great resources to aid those struggling with their gambling. MGM Springfield promotes responsible gambling for all players, offering problem gambling help both in-house and on their official website.
There are also many resources available in-person. At the facility, patrons can visit the GameSense booth if they find themselves uncomfortable with the way things are going. GameSense counselors are trained to help dispel the myths that come with gambling and inform visitors about the options available for relief and treatment. You can also visit the GameSense area if you simply need to take a break.
In addition, players can access problem gambling resources on the GameSense official website. The site aims to “keep gambling fun with tips and information for casino guests.”

MGM Springfield History
The notion of a full-service casino resort in Massachusetts was a fantasy until 2011. Until the passage of the Expanded Gaming Act in that year, placement of a facility like MGM Springfield inside the Bay State simply could not occur. However, after then-Gov. Deval Patrick signed the act in November 2011, several different companies began to jockey for the license in Region B – the western area of Massachusetts.
MGM was one of those companies, of course, but Hard Rock International and the Mohegan Tribe also submitted proposals for developing their own properties in the area. Hard Rock wanted to place its location in West Springfield, and the Mohegans sought a venue in Palmer.
Unfortunately for them, a three-month period at the end of 2013 saw both initiatives rejected by voters in each town. MGM’s Springfield proposal remained the only viable solution on the table. Originally, MGM proposed to build a 25-story hotel tower with a glass facade on Market Street. However, the company altered its plans to take over and repurpose existing structures on Main Street in Springfield and preserve the historical character of the area.
MGM finally opened the location on Aug. 24, 2018. The casino giant continues to be the owner and operator of the property to this day, although it shuffled the ownership of the land and physical plant of the property into a related real estate investment trust in 2021. This move is quite common, however, and allows MGM to free up assets tied up in the initial construction of the building.
Barring some sort of strategy change, western Massachusetts will be home to an MGM location for the foreseeable future.
