Where is the closest Massachusetts retail sportsbook to you?

Massachusetts sports betting at retail sportsbooks will become legal at 10 a.m. next Tuesday, Jan. 31.

For a few months, in-person wagering will be the only option for eager MA sports bettors chomping at the bit to finally place legal sports bets. Online sportsbooks aren’t expected to launch until late February or early March.

So it’s probably a good idea to get familiar with where the three MA retail sportsbooks are located. Will you just have a quick drive to place your bets and watch the game? Or will you have to budget in a legitimate chunk of travel time?

More retail sportsbooks will eventually open at Raynham Park (Caesars Sportsbook) and Suffolk Downs (TBD). But, on Jan. 31, these will be the three sports betting options in Massachusetts:

🏦 Encore Boston Harbor (WynnBET)

  • Location: Everett, MA

🏦 MGM Springfield (BetMGM)

  • Location: Springfield, MA

🏦 Plainridge Park Casino (Barstool Sportsbook)

  • Location: Plainville, MA

Sportsbook Closest to Boston

Encore Boston Harbor is by far the closest retail sportsbook to Boston … because it’s basically in Boston. Everett is technically 6 miles north of Boston. But saying they’re separate cities is like saying Hollywood isn’t part of Los Angeles.

Sportsbook Closest to Worcester

Worcester, the second-most-populous city in Massachusetts, is smack dab in between Encore Boston Harbor and MGM Springfield, the two biggest of the three Massachusetts casinos.

To be exact, it’s a shade more than 50 miles west of Encore Boston Harbor in Everett, and just more than 53 miles east of MGM Springfield in Springfield.

Worcester residents might be better off driving to Springfield because the traffic around the city is not nearly as bad as Boston traffic. So, the Worcester-to-Springfield drive will take less time, nine times out of 10.

Sportsbook Closest to Southeastern Mass

If you live in MilfordFoxboroughAttleboroTauntonBrockton, New Bedford, MiddleboroughFall River, or any of the cities in SE Massachusetts, your closest retail sportsbook is Barstool Sportsbook at Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville.

It’s about 19 miles west of Brockton, the sixth-biggest city in Massachusetts. It’s 39 miles north of New Bedford, the state’s eighth-largest city and the biggest in SE Mass. If you keep going north about 23 more miles above Plainville, you’d get to Encore Boston Harbor in Everett.

Sportsbook Closest to Western Mass

If you live in SpringfieldChicopeeGreenfieldHolyokeWestfield, or any other city in Western Massachusetts, your closest retail sportsbook is BetMGM at MGM Springfield.

This is the most obvious MA retail sportsbook choice of any region in the state, as some residents in Western Mass are as far as a 3-hour drive from Everett or Plainville, but just an hour drive from Springfield.
