Mobile sports betting is expected to launch in Massachusetts in early March. Soon, sports fans in the state will have access to a variety of different sportsbook apps, and PointsBet Sportsbook is one of them. PointsBet is relatively new on the US sports betting scene, but it has quickly become one of the country’s best betting platforms.
Here is what you can expect from them as soon as mobile betting apps launch in Massachusetts.
When Will PointsBet Be Live In Massachusetts?
Sports bets in Massachusetts have to be placed in person right now, but soon, the launch of MA mobile sportsbook apps will take MA sports betting to the next level. A total of 15 mobile licenses can be granted, and so far 11 have been approved, including PointsBet.
An official launch date for mobile betting apps has not been announced, although March 10 has been floated as a potential launch date. This is according to Karen Wells, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC), who floated the date in a MGC public meeting last week. Wells said the launch timeline depends on the quality of the online sportsbook operators’ internal control submissions, as well as their responses to issues raised by the regulators.
Right now, the hope is that mobile betting apps can be up and running in Massachusetts in time for March Madness. The men’s college basketball NCAA Tournament begins March 14 and the women’s college basketball tournament begins March 15.
Other than the Super Bowl, March Madness is the most bet-on sporting event in the US each year. Having the mobile betting industry ready to roll would be huge for both operators and users.
PointsBet has frequently been among the first sportsbooks to launch in other states that already have mobile sports betting. When mobile betting in MA does launch, we expect PointsBet to be ready right away.

One special aspect to PointsBet Sportsbook is a wager dubbed “PointsBetting.” This type of bet is unique to PointsBet, and it essentially takes your bet stake and multiplies it by how many units correct or incorrect your bet ends up being. Thus, your wins and losses are variable up until a game’s conclusion. Here’s an example to help explain the concept:
Consider a game in which the Boston Celtics are facing the Los Angeles Clippers, and the total for the game is 222.5. You believe it’s going to be a close, high-scoring affair. At most sportsbooks you’d bet say $110 on the Over and if the game ends with a score of 119-116 (235 points), for instance, you’d win $100. Now let’s see how that bet might work with PointsBetting.
At PointsBet, the PointsBetting Over/Under line might be 222, and you wager $10. So now, if the total ends up at 235, your $10 bet ends up winning you $130 because the over hit by 13 points, and 10 times 13 is 130.
Be warned, though, that if the game ended with a score of 102-100, you would have lost $200 on your $10 bet. Because if the potential bigger losses, we recommend easing into PointsBetting until you are comfortable with how it works.
