Q & A with Martin Harris

My path into the industry began during the early-2000s online poker boom, when I started writing about my own play and quickly found opportunities to report on the game more broadly.

Gambling has moved much closer to the mainstream, particularly with the legalization and rapid growth of online sports betting and other regulated forms of gaming.

The idea that a player is ever “due” to win after a series of losses remains one of the most persistent misconceptions. In other words, the classic “gambler’s fallacy.”

My usual advice is simple: keep careful records of your play and never gamble more than you can comfortably afford to lose.

Poker is still my favorite, though I also enjoy blackjack, baccarat, roulette, and occasionally testing new slot games while reviewing casino sites.

I’m especially interested in how new forms of online gaming, from sweepstakes casinos to prediction markets, are changing the way people interact with gambling platforms.

Absolutely. Testing games firsthand is one of the best ways to understand how sites operate and what players actually experience. I also play in a regular home poker game and in casinos whenever I get the chance.

The industry is constantly evolving, with new technologies, regulations, and game formats emerging all the time, which makes it a fascinating subject to keep covering. I also love the stories and characters that gambling games can produce — so many great plots!
