DraftKings is planning to launch a free video streaming service that will be available soon.
The streaming service will be complete with plenty of sports betting content, mainly revolving around podcasts. The podcasts will also be available in video versions. They could debut in the next few weeks.
DraftKings was founded in Massachusetts and is headquartered in Boston.
More sportsbooks creating streaming services
Streaming services are becoming more popular for sportsbook operators. This move from DraftKings MA is another example of sports betting operators making moves to morph into media companies.
As the sports betting industry makes its way across the US, on-air talent has been migrating from traditional media networks to sports betting platforms. In addition, companies such as DraftKings and FanDuel are forming strategic partnerships to reach sports consumers.
For example, DraftKings has a partnership with Meadowlark Media, the sports content company started by former ESPN president John Skipper and ESPN personality Dan Le Batard.
Additionally, Mike Golic Jr, a former-ESPN radio personality, hosts a podcast for DraftKings.
“Over the years, DraftKings has expanded our media footprint by securing top talent and trusted personalities across sports media, and we’ve begun the initial rollout of DK Network,” DraftKings told Bloomberg in a statement.
DraftKings Massachusetts
DraftKings has a strong Massachusetts presence. In fact, DraftKings was the No. 1 sportsbook in Massachusetts in the first month of online sports betting. DraftKings took in the most handle — $257.6 million, or 47% of the market.
Claiming the top spot in the first month is a big win for DraftKings, which will continue to pour resources into retaining this leading position.
Its new streaming service may be just the start.
